Physiotherapy

To complement and enhance the healing effects of Dr. Koenig's specific chiropractic adjustment treatment, we also provide state-of-the-art physiological therapeutic procedures.

Ultrasound

This therapeutic modality uses high-frequency sound waves administered in the region of soft tissue injuries.
Sound vibrations, as fast as a million times per second , penetrate the tissues deep in the body, creating a heat response. These vibrations and heat break down and disperse unhealthy calcium and other heart tissue accumulations. The rise in temperature increases blood flow, relaxes spasm, massages tissues and speeds the healing process.

Interferential Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Interferential muscle stimulation is a therapeutic modality used to aid in the relief of pain and the promotion of soft tissue healing. Tiny amounts of electrical impulses are induced into the tissues in the vicinity of the injury. Where these waves intersect below the surface of the skin, a low-frequency stimulation is created. This prompts the body to secrete endorphins and other natural pain killers to help relieve pain. Interferential therapy is most often used for pain relief and to aid in reducing swelling of soft tissues.  Ligament sprains, muscle strains and spasms often respond to this treatment, helping reduce atrophy and increase blood circulation.

TENS7000.jpgTranscutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (T.E.N.S.)

T.E.N.S. is a  therapeutic modality that can be prescribed by Dr. Koenig and used all day long at home or work for chronic and acute pain relief. T.E.N.S. units are about the size of a pocket pager and can be worn constantly throughout the day.  T.E.N.S. is an excellent, non-drug alternative for chronic pain such as lower-back ache and arthritis.  It is also useful in relieving acute pain caused by childbirth, surgery, traumatic injury and other conditions. Dr. Koenig wants to be clear however that T.E.N.S. does not cure any physiological problem; it only helps to to control pain. It is often a better, safer option than often dangerous drugs however. The T.E.N.S. unit produces a mild electrical current that is delivered to the nerve fibers through four electrodes applied to the skin. These electronic signals are stronger than the pain signal the body produces, therefore blocking the pain signal from reaching the brain. The result is reduced pain in most cases.  T.E.N.S. devises are routinely covered by most insurance plans. Ask Dr. Koenig on your next visit if this may be an appropriate treatment for you.

Medical Diathermy

This modality delivers a form of shortwave electro-magnetic energy used to raise the temperature of certain soft tissues below the surface of the skin. The diathermy energy field passes through the softer tissues near the surface of the body (skin, fat, vessels, nerves) turning into heat when reaching the more dense tissues below the surface (muscle, bone).  This increases blood circulation and can help speed the healing process. Very effective at relaxing muscles and connective tissue.  It can help increase range of motion, reduce spasm and make movement and stretching less painful.

Cryotherapy (Cold Treatments)

Cold application is the simplest and most commonly used method for treatment of acute musculoskeletal injury. Among chiropractic practitioners it is the most often utilized (94.5%) passive adjunctive therapy. The pathophysiological effects of cold have been well documented. Studies have shown that cold applications can reduce the metabolic rate of a tissue, decrease pain and swelling, and reduce muscle spasm. Ice therapy is primarily used for treatment of bruises, strains, sprains, or muscle tears and is most often associated with the rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) principle following acute soft tissue injury. Medical grade gel ice packs may be purchased very economically at Koenig Wellness. At Koenig Wellness we are excited to provide our patients with the option of using the Vital Wrap System by VitalWear.
